Good bye 2016, Hello 2017

Hello Readers,

If I had to summarize the year of 2016, I would say it was full of reflections and lessons hard learned. I had to cut loose a lot of things that bother me, get rid of friends that no longer suit me and take hard decision about my career and personal happiness.

  • Personal
    • I tried the master cleanse diet (or the lemonade diet) for 10 days
    • I travelled to Iquitos, Peru for the caapi vine
    • I travelled to New York City and Boston
    • I travelled to Dallas, Texas
    • I visited the Google campus and the Mountain View and San Jose area in California
    • I participated in my first paint bar event
    • Virtus junxit mors non separabit
    • I become an Uber Partner driver
      • A very fun and social activity
  • Publication
  • Blog
    • This year I was less active on my blog than last year
      • I was busy releasing my new book and ramping up with my new work
    • I published ~77 posts
    • I had ~149,614 visitors (an increase of 28.84% from last year)
  • Work
    • I read a bunch of technical books on new topics that I never worked with
    • I learned / refreshed my skills on how to write Windows File System filter drivers and driver development in general
    • I started working on an open source framework that will be release in the summer of 2017
    • I quit Microsoft after 4½ years
      • I had this idea brewing in my head since September 2015. A good pay does not mean a happy life
      • I learned who are my real friends and who were fake ones, who wish me well and who does not
      • I went through “The grass is greener on the other side” syndrome
    • I joined a 30 people startup in Boston
      • It was an unsuccessful endeavor and I quit after 3 month
      • I learned a lot from joining a startup, my first startup
    • I got a job interview at Google in December. Early Jan 2017 update: I did not get an offer.
    • I worked in a shared office space with Very nice environment. I encourage using it

In 2016, I have lost so many things (voluntarily mainly) and started facing deep seated fears. In this new year, I plan to work harder, trust myself and the universe in order to rebuild my life in a way to suites me best with all the hard earned lessons of this year.

I would like to end this last blog post for 2016 with a couple of versus from the Bible:

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Psalm 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
