I was raised in a Christian household. My parents taught me to abstain from meat each Friday. After I broke free from the religious institutions and starting looking for truth everywhere and in various ‘holy’ books, I stopped being rigid about any spiritual practice.
The Truth is not exclusive to any religion
Instead of fasting and abstaining from eating meat, I decided to juice fast on certain Fridays for health and spiritual reasons. I speak a lot about the fasting topic and its benefits in my “Introduction to Fasting” article.
Why Fridays you ask? First because I got used to abstain on Fridays due to my previous religious practices.
And second because I believe that if you are serious about your health then Friday is the best choice to “hit the brakes” and slow down on eating. When you give your body a break from food, it will start a healing process.
By juice fasting on Friday (I usually drink fresh carrot juice) and eating moderately and lots less on Saturday and Sunday you are bound to experience the best Monday of your life.
Besides, these two weekend days (Saturday and Sunday) tend to make us overeat more than any other weekday

Interesting…I grew up in a Christian environment myself, but didn’t find the truth until I was guided to the ancient and timeless Vedic texts. The very Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself says in one of those texts called the Bhagavad-gita As It Is Chapter 18:66, “Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.” You might find some interesting read on my blog page about this. Nice to read from you. Yes, my search for the truth lead me to the Bhagavad Gita and ISKON people.
I studied with them for a while and now I am back on my own. They slowly started to become too religious to my taste.

I totally understand. I only go to ISKCON to see the Deities or get books and paraphernalia. We have our own temple. I am not of ISKCON, but rather from the Gaudiya Math or Gaudiya vaisnavas. You will never find any of my guru’s books in ISKCON because of politics. Anyhow, what’s on my blog page you already know, most likely. I just uploaded some general teachings there for the general public. Depending on whom you meet, some devotees can be a bit fanatical, which is off-putting to anyone. I am not of that disposition. Take care 🙂
