The stereogram experience

I first learned about stereograms in 2001. Back then, the term was new to me and I had no idea that it was possible to see 3D shapes on a 2D screen with the naked eyes.

What are stereograms you ask?

Wikipedia, as usual, has a nice article explaining stereograms.

After a long week of trying hard, researching and learning various techniques, I managed to see my first stereogram:

The other Sunday, I ran into the “Crystal Bouquet – Wear a flower” artisan shop in the Pike Market in Seattle where they put flowers inside a glass pendant:

The Allegory of Youth

The following art piece displayed at The Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, Texas.

It is called “The Allegory of Youth”, By Domenico Piola.

Allegory of Youth, circa 1680
By Domenico Piola — Genoa, 1627-1703
Oil on canvas
The Suida-Maning Colection, 467.1999

In its undulating rhythms, multi-colored modeling, and softly modulated light, this painting exemplifies Piola’s mature style.

This picture of a beautiful young woman and an aged winged man holding an hourglass and scythe suggests a common Baroque allegory, Time revealing Truth.
In fact, the explicit vanity of the woman, caught plaiting her hair, echoed by the mirror, and the futile gesture of the little boy as well as the frailty of the proffered flower, shift the meaning to the fleeting nature of physical beauty.

Homeless Jesus

I was walking in downtown San Antonio  near St. Mary’s street and I found this beautiful statue:

The statue had a sign above it reading:

“Homeless Jesus”

By Sculptor Timothy P. Schmalz, 2015

“In Truth I tell you in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me”.
Matthew 25:40

In this day and age, we need to remember our fellow humans and try to help them as much as possible. Such a statue, right in downtown San Antonio is such a reminder. If God blessed us with many gifts, the least we can do (apart from being grateful), is to share our blessings with others.

In My Darkest Hours – A music album review

Hello readers,

Yesterday I had the chance to listen to the new album released by James Ludwig Stark on Amazon:

in-my-darkest-hours

I don’t want to talk much about the album except that I really liked it and the songs live up to their names. I can easily imagine this music being used in movie sound tracks!

These are the songs in the album, see for yourself:

Anna 1:33
Rise 2:54
Teardrops On My Piano 2:40
Into The Darkness 2:37
The Woman Standing In The Dark 3:31
An Untold Story 3:07
Dark Side Of Gloria 2:56
Burying My Grandma 2:35
Goodbye My Friend 2:09
After 64 Consecutive Rejections 3:08

You can listen to samples on Amazon.com or just buy the whole album!

…and by the way, if you notice the last song’s name “After 64 Consecutive Rejections”, I cannot but think “64 bits” in computer terms! 🙂

Enjoy!
