Guiding Hands

That’s a really funny and sarcastic video showing how much attached we are now to our smartphones. This video really makes sense! 🙂

The 2017 World Predictions – Between reality and illusion, between today and tomorrow

Last year, out of curiosity, I decided to translate the predictions of Michel Hayek for the year of 2016. The article proved to be popular so I decided to do a preliminary translation of the 2017 predictions.

Disclaimer:

  1. I am not a professional translator and I do this as a hobby.
  2. I do not claim the accuracy of the translation below.
  3. I did not translate everything. I skipped many things including predictions of events that are very local to the Arab region and Lebanon.
  4. Please watch the original video with the help of an interpreter if you want to know about all of his predictions.

As Michel Hayek said in his interview, the title of his predictions for the year of 2017 is:

Between reality and illusion, between today and tomorrow

Let’s get started!

A day trip to Manhattan, New York City

Back in August, while visiting Boston, I took the Saturday morning Amtrak train to the Pennsylvania Station, New York City. It was a pleasant 4 hours ride in the train. After I arrived, I left the station and found myself in the center of Manhattan.

I was greeted by a bus tour saleswoman. I figured, why not, let me ride the tour bus and familiarize myself with the city. Unfortunately, it was raining the most part of the day.

It was a very busy day. People everywhere and there were barely room for pedestrians. The trash bins were full, homeless people were everywhere and the city was very very dirty. It felt like a zoo. Manhattan is not like what you see on TV. In reality it is a dog eat dog city. People were pushing each other and were very unfriendly. Later that day, I did my best to go away from Times Square and deep into the other parts of Manhattan. The further I got away from Manhattan the more tolerable and pleasant the city felt to me. What struck me most was that on each block you would find a pizza place. No wonder why the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who live in New York, love Pizza 😉 Continue reading “A day trip to Manhattan, New York City”

Are you Christian? Are you Muslim? What’s your religion? Tell me, I want to feel better

I am writing this blog post just to rant and vent off and share with you one incident that happened with me.

The other day, while visiting Vancouver, BC, I was stopped by a family to take a photo. They observed my accent and they asked me where I am from. When I mentioned Lebanon, they wanted to know if I am a Christian or a Muslim. When I said Christian, they felt really happier and more friendly!

If you live in the West, some (if not many) people are Islamophobe. They ask you if you are a Christian or a Muslim so they feel a bit of relief if you have a more “positive” and “peaceful” religion.

I just hate the fact that I have to declare my religion so that others around me feel better. Even if they don’t ask directly, I feel this covert need to disclose my religion. Too bad, what a state of affairs. Having said that, I was born to a Christian family.

Today, based on the current world events, more and more people are brainwashed by the mainstream media to hate the religion of Islam. Where is the real freedom of expression?

When it comes to me, I treat others not based on their religion, but on how they act towards others. I try not to generalize because each person is different.: there are bad Christians as there are good Muslims and vice versa.

No Wifi – Talk to each other! Pretend it’s 1993!

no wifi, talk to each otherDo you remember the days when you used to go to a coffee shop to meet and talk with new people?

Well, it is no longer the case. You go to a coffee shop and you see people with headphones absorbed in their own bubbles or just glued to their smartphone screens!

It takes more efforts these days to strike a conversation with strangers because you have to find the right way not to interrupt or annoy people as you start a conversation.

Often times, I also go to a coffee shop to work and focus and thus I don’t want to talk to new people. But even still, often times I want to take a break and meet/talk to strangers. Continue reading “No Wifi – Talk to each other! Pretend it’s 1993!”

Is online dating a big scam for men?

logo-Match-Tinder-OK-CupidToday, in this day and age of technological advancement, we are presented with tools that aim (sincerely one must say) at helping us in our endeavor in human interaction and forming new connections.

Social tools such as Facebook and online dating websites such as OkCupid, Match.com, eHarmony, etc., all try to help us connect, form new connections, make friends (with or without benefits) and often times just hook up.
Other tools aim to take advantage of the technology to make it even faster to connect with people by simply letting you provide very little information about yourself (a bunch of pictures for example) and then they offer you a quick and brutal way to judge the profile of other participants and see if they are worthy of your attention (Tinder anyone!?).

Those technological social tools are nice concepts but have failed miserably at helping people connect properly with each other on all dimensions. Instead those tools only cover shallow dimensions of the human interactions without providing the full spectrum of such.

Electronic social interaction is like junk food, whereas face to face interaction is like wholesome and organic food.

This article will be based on my own experience as a male and on the sentiments of many men from various manosphere websites and blogs.

In this article, I will be addressing some aspects and realities that I have observed in this day and age regarding online dating. Continue reading “Is online dating a big scam for men?”

The three teens and the belfie obsession

ass-touching-girls
The other day, I was sitting on the bench facing the lake and talking to a friend. I could not help but notice from afar on the docks three teenagers taking selfies in turns.

They spent around 30+ minutes taking photos of themselves making duck faces, yolo signs and all sort of vain poses and facial expressions.

At one point the selfie session became even more weird: the two teenagers asked their third friend to take a picture of them. They turned their back to the camera, protruded their behinds a bit, and then each girl touched the other girl’s ass while posing for the picture.

It is ridiculous how the teenage girls are very obsessed with their assets: face, hair, ass, tits, legs, you name it!

They forget that one day, they will grow old and their skin will sag. External beauty is like a flower, it will whither slowly but surely.

What values did they develop more than their vanity and narcissism during their formative years?

By the way, is there is anything more vain than the term: “Instagram model“?

The 2016 World Predictions according to Michel Hayek

michel-hayekThis is the first time I decide to translate the 2016 predictions of Michel Hayek, a Lebanese psychic, from Arabic to English and post it on my blog.

I don’t have a stance on predictions and I cannot say whether I believe or don’t believe in them. We, humans, have a lot to learn and discover about our full potential and what we can and cannot do. Bottom line: I am open to all the possibilities.

The reason I decided to translate this video is when I saw on the news that Mark Zuckerberg received threats from the ISIS supporters, which reminded me of one of Michel’s predictions for the year 2016 which was aired in December 31, 2015.
Two things to note before I present the translation:

  1. I am not a professional translator (at least not yet).
  2. I did not translate everything. I skipped many things including predictions of events that are very local to the Arab region and Lebanon.

Honey, I want a 3 carat ring for our engagement…what a sham!

3-carat-ringWe live in a society where in order for a man to show his love to his to a woman, he has to spend money. He has to buy her gifts, diamonds, gold, jewelry and other shiny items.
The only ones who benefit are the advertisers and jewelry shop owners. The message they keep pounding into our feeble minds is: BUY, BUY, BUY!

Have you seen the slogan of Kay the jewelry shop? “Every kiss starts with a K”. They want you to prove your love by spending your hard earned money on metals or carbons, oops, excuse me I meant to say gold and diamond.

When will society mature and realize that this is all an advertising sham, meant to transform what is true, pure and immaterial (such as love) into a commercial endeavor and a shopping spree?

I met many guys who are confused and not sure “Where and which is the PERFECT engagement ring for his fiancé”. Dear Jesus, what bullshit is this?

Or perhaps if you live in the USA, you must have heard girlfriends chatting with each other about this absurd custom (that originated from a clever 1940 advertisement) that the man has to buy an engagement ring that costs THREE TIMES his salary.

Oh man….and don’t even get me started about the marriage industry and all the ridiculous and unnecessary expenses that “modern” society subtly (not to say strong words) enforce on the wed to be couples.

Enough food for though, see you next time.

Adults: No Christmas gifts for you

xmas-giftTonight is Christmas Eve and everyone is asking me if I finished my Christmas shopping and whether I bought gifts and what not.

I did buy a couple of gifts for kids (through a giving program) and I also donated some of my time to charity during this time of the year to help prepare breakfast for the homeless. So I gladly done my share of giving.

However, this is the first year where I do not buy any gifts for adults: my siblings, relatives and friends. When I tell this to others they feel shocked, as if I committed a grave sin!

So let me explain my philosophy, and I repeat it is pertains to adults and not kids. Kids do not have their own money and any toy or gift will bring joy to their hearts. Continue reading “Adults: No Christmas gifts for you”

No Avocado for you! Come back one year!

no avocado for you

I was in Vancouver, BC during a short weekend visit to discover and explore the city. The sun usually sets around 4:30PM this time of year.

I arrived Saturday and I checked in into my hotel room at 4PM, grabbed my umbrella and started walking around.

I wanted to walk in downtown and see much of the streets, the people and various attractions.

I tell you, the city looked vibrant and full of young people. There were lots of Asians as well. For a second I forgot I was in Canada (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

So, basically for me, the biggest “attraction” or the highlight of my exploration on Saturday night was the sheer amount of homeless people asking for money and lying on the streets.

Testing on the Toilet

So, has your company started following you to the toilet as well? It seems the idea of “testing on the toilet”, where code snippets and sometimes code testing techniques are printed and attached on the toilet walls, was started by Google (please correct me if I am wrong).

I was surprised the other day to enter the toilet, only to find those one pagers with code testing techniques attached above the urinary gutters!

tot-2

It is one thing to want your employees to be productive and another thing to follow them to the toilet where they hope to have a moment of peace and quiet while they relief themselves!

What about number two you ask? Well, they follow you inside as well:

Personally, I find that unacceptable. Instead, put some jokes, something a bit lighter and funny! 🙂

The seven chakras and spiritual dating

Introduction

After living in the West for 7 years now, I could not help but observe how the dating values are upside down from what I believe dating and how humans relationships should be.

Let me quickly explain how things run in the Western world: Two people meet, they go have sex on the first, second date, or third date then later (and perhaps) go through the efforts to really know about each other or just dump each other and start looking for a new sexual adventure all over again.

It seems it is a recurrent pattern where people these days rarely go through the trouble to know each other on a level deeper then the carnal and physical dimension. Instead, they first jump directly into the sexual phase with random strangers after a few drinks or just because they could not contain their animal instinct. Microsoft’s New – Surface Book – Review

I had the chance to go to Microsoft Store and check out the new Surface Book. This is the video review below:

I personally was not wowed about it. Here are my comments:

  • When you close the lid, it is not very convenient to open it up. Unlike other laptops I used, say the MacBook Air, with the Surface Book, you need two hands to open the lid and you need to push a bit harder
  • The screen does not detach without first pressing the EJECT button for a couple of seconds
  • The keyboard is good. If you’re a programmer you may get used to it, it has a nice feel to it.
  • It is relatively heavy 3.3 pounds
  • The competitors have already a hybrid laptop where you can detach the screen from the keyboard and have a dual experience: tablet or laptop.

I also shot another video showing the new stylus:

What is hard to capture in the video is how it feels when using the stylus. Each stylus tip gives you a different feel / drag on the screen. That’s pretty nice!

In conclusion, and in my opinion, the Surface Book does not deserve to be called “The Ultimate Laptop”, at least not yet.
